Description
JF Stylocoeniella Sunset – encrusting Stylocoeniella stony coral with fine polyps.
The original photographs show the offered specimen. Compare its growth form with the space available in your reef.
Light and flow
Light: low to moderate; its SPS grouping does not mean it belongs directly under an intense light. Flow: moderate and broadly distributed to prevent debris settling on the encrusting tissue.
Placement in your reef
On secure rock with room for the crust to spread; leave space from other corals.
Feeding and ongoing care
Primarily supported by light; supplement sparingly with suitable fine coral food.
If tissue pales, check lighting and water chemistry first. Do not infer a high light requirement from the SPS label.
Keep water conditions stable
As a general reef starting point: 24–26 °C, salinity 34–35 PSU, alkalinity 7–8.5 dKH, calcium 410–450 mg/l and magnesium 1,250–1,400 mg/l. Stability matters more than abruptly chasing a number. Avoid complete nutrient depletion and check trends rather than reacting to a single reading.
For a consistent testing routine, see our reef water testing guide.
