Acanthophyllia

Acanthophyllia are large polyp stony corals with a striking single polyp. When buying an Acanthophyllia, choose the individual specimen using its WYSIWYG photographs and listed dimensions. You receive the exact animal shown. Allow more space than its skeleton alone might suggest: the soft tissue can expand considerably after the coral settles in. Colour patterns and trade names help you compare specimens, but they do not replace the measurements or care information on the product page.

Room for the expanded polyp

A secure, sheltered position near the bottom of the aquarium is often a useful starting point. Avoid sharp rock edges and a direct pump jet that constantly distorts the tissue. The expanded coral also needs clear space around neighbouring animals. Adjust lighting gradually and keep water chemistry consistent. Our care guide to Acanthophyllia and similar LPS helps you prepare. You can also compare our Cynarina and explore other LPS corals.
