Cynarina corals stand out for their fleshy single polyp and partly translucent, bubble-like tissue. Before buying a Cynarina, compare individual WYSIWYG specimens using their photographs, dimensions and care information. You receive the exact coral shown. Allow enough room for the expanded polyp: a compact skeleton does not mean the animal needs little space. Consider its intended position and any neighbouring corals that could later come into contact with the soft tissue.
Gentle flow and careful acclimation
Strong, direct flow can press the tissue against the skeleton. Choose a sheltered position with gentle water movement and adjust lighting gradually. If you offer additional food, use small, suitable portions, observe whether the coral takes them and remove uneaten leftovers. Our guide to Cynarina and other fleshy LPS explains how to prepare. You can also compare Acanthophyllia and explore our other LPS corals when planning your reef layout.
