Description
These two empty media bags keep loose filter material together in a marine aquarium. Use them with suitable activated carbon, for example, then lift the bag and its contents out of the filter or sump when it is time to change the media.
What is included
The pack contains two reusable nylon mesh bags with drawstring closures. The manufacturer specifies 12.5 × 25 cm per bag. Filter media are not included. These bags have no mounting ring and are not fitted filter socks for a sock holder.
Getting useful flow through the media
Fill the bag loosely and close the drawstring. Place it where water passes through the media rather than simply flowing around the outside. A tightly packed bag in a stagnant corner makes poor use of its contents.
Check that your media particles suit the mesh before use. Red Sea does not specify a micron rating here, so retention of very fine powders cannot be guaranteed. Rinse your chosen media according to its own instructions before adding it.
Cleaning and replacement
Check water flow and rinse accumulated debris from the bag when replacing the media. A reusable bag does not extend the useful life of its contents: replace carbon or other media according to its instructions and the needs of your aquarium.
