Description
The Salifert Silicate test checks silicate in aquarium water and source water. Readings are expressed as SiO2; the manufacturer states a range of 0.03–30 mg/L. It is useful when investigating silicate entering through top-up or water-change water.
Using and interpreting the test
Test the aquarium and source water separately and label the samples. This makes possible inputs easier to trace. When comparing with another test or laboratory report, check whether results are expressed as Si or SiO2: the numbers are not directly interchangeable. A silicate reading alone cannot identify a brown coating as diatoms.
Use the enclosed instructions for your test version. Reagents are for water testing only; do not return the tested sample to the aquarium, and keep the kit out of children's reach.
